Hello everyone,

HELP! I have a 8X4 and 8X3 raised beds that need to be off the ground... I have palm roots coming up into the beds.. The treated plywood is so expensive. Do you know how long the regular plywood would last before they will start to rot? What thickness of the wood is needed to support these beds? I am wondering if there is a cheaper alternative???

Thank you so much for all your input!

I believe that Boffer uses hardware cloth for his tabletops. Check for his posts earlier in the year (March-April).

you don't want to buy treated plywood anyway....just regular plywood.
You don't want the chemicals used to treat plywood leeching into your soil. Not that the glue in plywood is any better, but the chemicals used for treating plywood are worse.

The other options I know of are not any less expensive.

Hi,

All of my boxes have half inch hardware cloth bottoms that are covered with weed cloth. The oldest boxes are 5 years old, and are as good as new. Search for 'table tops' for more general information.
