Hello from Northern Illinois
Well hi there everybody,
My name's Anne and I'm a graduate student/gardener. I live in the far far north of Illinois, 7 1/2 blocks from the Wisconsin state line, and about a mile from Lake Michigan.
I started reading about Square Foot Gardening years and years ago, but hadn't put any of the reading to work until recently (see above: graduate student = we'd rather read about it than do it).
But this year husband & I just purely went nuts in the early Spring: sprouted seeds under lights in the basement, set up 6 4x4 boxes, blended the compost, made the Mel's Mix, got everything in the ground, and now it's all starting to come in like gangbusters.
We've had cabbage, broccoli, chard, spinach and snow peas so far, but the later crops are coming along nicely and soon it will be green bean & tomato time!

Re: Hello from Northern Illinois
Well...hi back at ya!...isn't it fun to go nuts on something that's good for you?!
I'm glad you're getting reasonably decent weather-I think every beginning gardener deserves that much for their efforts-so they get enough satisfaction to come back next year for more.
Welcome to the forum, and we're looking forward to seeing your pictures. We might all be doing SFG, but no two gardens look the same!
