New in Massachusetts

Hi all,

I just started reading the book yesterday so am completely new to SFG as well as to vegetable growing in general. Am delighted to find a website to go with the book because I have so many questions!

I'm thinking of starting next spring and using an area of our property that is currently paved. (Previous owners liked basketball and chose the sunniest spot.) So I guess I'm looking at gardening in boxes and have a few questions about that but maybe I'll navigate this site a bit before I ask them. Of course, if anyone has advice right off, it would be appreciated.

Welcome. While I am in So Cal, my family is in Rockport and they generally do not even look out at the yard until this weekend.

There is no reason you cannot plop a couple of boxes down on the paved areas. Or better yet build a table top (TT) box that can be moved (albeit it is heavy). There are all sorts of possibilities. Have fun!

I was thinking the same, with SFG Ive found its never too late to start.

You could be thinking on what types of beds table top or on the ground. I think if you are in an area where they are just now planting, you could use transplants from the stores to get you started. Start out small and go from there.

I think with learning Mel's theory about the soil we use and less watering, less weeding, and high produce is what sold me Smile

I do see growth with onions, I had no luck with onions in my row garden. This year they are a foot tall !! I even put store bought garlic in a square and its growing !

I'm from Maine and started SFG last year. It was great but this year is even better. I've learned a lot in one year.
I'm sure you'll find SFG to your liking.
Good tasting crops and the very freshest.
