I live in zone 4/4b and My M.M.Melons matured but some were nice and sweet but others were not really editable, kind of bitter and didn't smell right.  They were all planted in grow bags using Mel's Mix.  Any suggestion appreciated.
Thank you

When a watermelon is bitter, or has an off odor, it usually means that it is over ripe and starting to go bad.  There are also a number of problems with the plant that can cause the fruit to be bad, such as Anthracnose fungus, downy mildew, or powdery mildew - but, you would have noticed any of those on the leaves of the plant.

Frank, I'm sorry you had some bitter MM cantaloupe. I have nothing to contribute as to the cause. Hopefully next year will be better. PS: MMM are so cute and you don't have to share with anyone. Razz

So Frank207, were they fully ripe? I love MMidgets, they are my grow every year short season cantaloupes.

We’re they green inside, or orange?  They should be orange and smell great.  I wonder if yours got a disease?  Like OG was saying, horrible stuff…

Let us know.  I have never had failure with them.  But every year is new!

Yes they were orange inside and I had to go online to figure out when to harvest but they basically fell off the vine when twisted gently.
