We are up and running!
After all the rain we got the last 2 weeks, I thought my peat in boxes would have been soaked through but it wasn't. The kids had fun adding water and mixing up all the mel's mix to dampen to the bottom. Needless to say, we were a colossal mess

In went pepper, cuke and zucchini plants, cilantro, basil, spinach, lettuce, pea pods, bush beans, & cuke seeds. I have a small corner outside the boxes where I need to fit in some potatoes, but not sure how I'm going to do those yet and need to hurry and figure it out. Also, have given no thought to how I'll make my trellises yet or how much watering needs to be done w/this mix. I keep calling this my summer experiment. Finally in the ground Icon_biggrin

I love it, LW. Playing in dirt and being a mess is sooo organic and earthy. It's really good for us. I can just see your kids and the great big smiles on their faces.

You're a good Mom.

Claire,
Despite washing 4 times, I STILL can't get the dirt out of the littlest one's fav Dora T-shirt! Well, MM, not dirt. Wink

Tell her it adds character!

Nor can I get it out from under my fingernails.

My neighbor accidentally knocked slats off my old wooden fence when he tilled their row garden next to the fence. When a comment was made by them that it is an old fence I told them yes it is an old fence, one with character, which we will repair and continue to admire with pride!

Finally in the ground Empty Gardener's laundry & other secrets

Post  camprn 6/1/2010, 6:05 pm

There are garden clothes and then there are clothes for everything else. I sometimes must hand scrub with a brush the knees of my garden pants. I also must use a hand brush after mucking about in the garden and my favorite hand cream is Udderly Smooth. I used to work for a gardener. She and her partner would always wear white clothes in the garden, part of the reason was the laundry factor, hot water and bleach with line drying in the sunshine kept those whites pretty white. Very Happy

Interesting about the white garden clothes... I always wondered why people wore white while working in the dirt. I should try it -- maybe not! Lots of old jeans and t-shirts. Pile 'em all up at the end of the week and throw them in the washer! Or, I could just shower with them on -- NO just kidding!

Claire,
Your 'old' fence is a perfect fit for your neighbor's 'old' row garden. Can you imagine tilling the dirt every year just because you couldn't help but walk all over your garden the year before? Embarassed
