I'm curious how many people recognize this plant? I don't think it's commonly grown ... but maybe not? And no, I don't mean the strawberry or the volunteer marigold ;-)

Anyone else have plants they'd like to stump everyone with?

Sorry. I know it looks a lot like potato vine. But it's not even distantly related.

Name that plant - the game Empty Cheated but wrong?

Post  Mary Lee 7/15/2021, 8:19 am

Ok, so I cheated and tried using my plant identifier app on your picture. The app identified it as a sweet potato. But you said that it is not. Hmmmm. Is it some crazy sort of bean?

Not a bean nor, AFAIK, any member of the legume family.

Although less common in the U.S., it is popular in parts of Europe and China, where more than 600,000 tonnes of its output are produced every year.

One last clue: It's seed hulls are often used to stuff furniture and specialty pillows/cushions.

Here's one that should be easier. You'll certainly know what type of plant it is, but what is the actual name?

Here you can see the flowers. Not at all like sweet potato.

Guess I should do a reveal tomorrow -- the tension is so thick you could cut it with a napkin.  Wink

Ding! Ding! Ding! Name that plant - the game 3170584802

The first photo was the Rose Red Soba buckwheat. The 2nd was just plain old white buckwheat. I guess there's some variation in leaves between the sub-types.

Another day, another buckwheat.
