I'm curious how many people recognize this plant? I don't think it's commonly grown ... but maybe not? And no, I don't mean the strawberry or the volunteer marigold ;-)

Ok, so I cheated and tried using my plant identifier app on your picture. The app identified it as a sweet potato. But you said that it is not. Hmmmm. Is it some crazy sort of bean?

Not a bean nor, AFAIK, any member of the legume family.

Although less common in the U.S., it is popular in parts of Europe and China, where more than 600,000 tonnes of its output are produced every year.

One last clue: It's seed hulls are often used to stuff furniture and specialty pillows/cushions.

The first photo was the Rose Red Soba buckwheat. The 2nd was just plain old white buckwheat. I guess there's some variation in leaves between the sub-types.

Another day, another buckwheat.
