Tomatoes from cuttings
My SIL is giving me 2 tomato plants started from cuttings. Does anyone have experience with tomatoes started this way?

Are the plants already growing and looking lively? Then it should be just the same as any other tomato plant.Missed-Em wrote:My SIL is giving me 2 tomato plants started from cuttings. Does anyone have experience with tomatoes started this way?
Almost all the tomatoes I grew last year started this way. Well, I started a couple of plants from seeds. But then the indeterminate pear tomato started growing too big. So I cut out pieces, gave them some time in water to start roots, and then planted them with a little rock phosphate. The cuttings continued to grow into little, tall bushes. Pretty soon I had most of a 4x8 box growing with them. At my daughter's insistence I nursed one of the plants through our mild winter. Now I'm starting out gardening this year using cuttings from last year!

Re: Tomatoes from cuttings
I have started many a tomato plant while cutting out suckers, and just sticking the cut end into the soil. In no time they will sprout roots and take off to a full grown tomato.

Missed-em, I'm guessing that most of the members have planted tomato cuttings or suckers.
