Just made Pesto Tortellini Salad with my frozen pesto from last year in it—so yummy and easy!

I need to use or give away some of that frozen pesto from last year, because this year’s basil and scapes are happening!

Underneath the pseudo-sausage you can see the spiralized zucchinni spaghetti. I think spiralized zucchini is actually better than spaghetti squash, which so often turns to mush.

A friend gave me 3 Julafuego Peppers, which I turned into poppers. The Fuego Jalapeno Pepper is a hybrid Jalapeno that is bred to be twice as hot as a regular Jalapeno. They made some great poppers! Only 12 minutes in the air fryer.   I may have to grow some of them next year.

A little warmer than a regular Jalapeno, but not too hot to comfortably to eat with the cheese stuffing.  It has a Scoville heat unit rating of 4,000 - 6,000, whereas a regular Jalapeno has a SHU rating of 2,500 - 5,000. So, it is mid-range heat.  One of the nice thing about them is that they are larger, about 4" to 5" long, and have a thicker flesh.

My jalapeño peppers are always way hotter than the Scoville scale—same with my Ancho (Poblano) peppers.  I wonder why that is?

Hot, dry weather causes the peppers to get hotter. My Jalapenos are the mildest this year that they have ever been because of the non-stop rains.

Yesterday we processed one of the Red Kuri Squash, which weighed 17 pounds 8 ounces, and had Roasted Squash for dinner, with a Squash Pie for dessert. The rest went into the freezer.  Such a sweet tasting squash! hungry

I have been growing my peppers in my south annex—the containers on the south side of my house.  They seem to be the only thing that will survive that hot, brick-backed space.

Thanks for the reply, OG.  I kind of suspected that was the answer.

So for New Year’s Day I made ribs and kraut (not from the garden) and my first ever homemade mashed potatoes!  Made them with my Yukon Golds (which I have a bunch of!). My prolifera of homegrown potatoes was part of my thinking behind this foray into potato land.  They were very tasty!  I actually am having leftovers for lunch!

Love to hear it!  This year I am going to try something new - growing potatoes, both white and sweet, in containers using the free 20 gallon cattle lick tubs that I inherited last fall. Can't wait to see how they do in those tubs.

I will be watching to see how this goes, OG.  Potatoes are a space hog in my SFG.
