Flooding and Mel's Mix
I understand in a normal garden bed you should replace the soil after a flood. If my SFG floods, (TS Nate on the way) will I have to replace my Mel's Mix???????

Re: Flooding and Mel's Mix
Mel's Mix drains quickly & easily... Unless you get flooded with a lot of garbage, sewage, etc., I wouldn't think so....
Re: Flooding and Mel's Mix
I agree with AtlantaMarie's thoughts, but would explicitly include brackish/salt water under the etc.

Re: Flooding and Mel's Mix
Thanks for responding. I'm about 5 miles North of the Gulf, so I would think that if actual salt water came up to my home from there, I would have many other things to be worried about other than my mix. Brackish water on the other hand could come up to my yard through a branch of a bayou about 250 yards south of my bed. Normally, the only time there is much water in there is when the lake about 1/2 mile west of my home spills over, so under normal circumstances, it flows south toward the salt water. Garbage should not be an issue, but I have no idea about sewage. My experience from being around for many many tropical storms and many hurricanes is that when it starts to flood, you can't tell where it's coming from.
The rains that come from tropical storm or hurricane drop salt water that have been sucked up from the gulf of mexico though. We are supposed to get about 4" of rain directly from the storm. I have read that as soon as the storm passes, to use fresh water to flush the salt from the garden.
I guess if it does flood, maybe I could get the mix tested before planting in it again? I know you can get your soil tested. I guess I could send my mix to them as well?

We and my garden faired well. It didn't flood. The part of the storm with the punch missed sunny about 10 miles. Thanks so much for asking.AtlantaMarie wrote:How did y'all fare, BrianJ?
