Re: What kind of pepper is this?
Do you eat these fresh? They are sooo pretty! And they are mostly sweet....still unsolved. COLD CASE!!!hammock gal wrote:Can anyone tell me what kind of peppers these are? They're very common here in the Northeast, usually called "long hots" or "Italian long hots", but I've been unable to identify the specific variety of pepper. They're not cayennes, they're not marconis, they're not banana peppers, or Jimmy Nardello's, and they're not half a dozen other close but not quite matches. They're basically a sweet pepper, but they like to surprise you, and every once in a while, one will fire up your taste buds with some heat. I'd love to grow them, but I can't seem to find seed anywhere for "Italian long hot peppers." I got these at a farm stand a few years ago, but they couldn't tell me anything more specific. If they have them this year, I'll get some and save the seeds, but I'd sure like to know what they are. Colorful, wrinkly and curly...aren't they gorgeous?

Re: What kind of pepper is this?
Back in the spring, I ordered seeds on ebay (my bad) of the Italian Roaster II F1 hyrbid previously featured here from White Flower Farm since they only sold live plants.
So far I've only gotten three. The right most is already halved because of a small hole by the stem. It was the most mild of the bunch. Roughly Jalapeno heat. The red one on the left was just stupidly hot. As in bite off a one inch tip and take a couple chews and spit it out. swirl milk all over inside of mouth and still on fire hot. Do it a second time to get the heat in the mouth down to I ate a pepper tingle. Way hotter than a Fresno pepper. Way hotter than the little cascabella peppers at In-N-Out.
On the bright side, my stuffy nose is now clear. I'll wait to try the third until the sizzle is completely gone.
I'm assuming my F1 ebay purchase is really the seeds of the prior year F1 planting.
