CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing December 2016
Well, the start of December, the last month of 2016. I will have completed two years as Regional Host and enjoyed it very much. I am looking forward to doing another year.
Yesterday we had a sprinkling of wet snow that hardly registered but a little more is forecast tomorrow then the temperature will be dropping and perhaps we will get some snow down here in the Columbia River Valley.
Should get a lot colder in a few days then the snow will stick. Snow shovel is at the ready.

TD, it is having such nice people who contribute to this thread, and indeed, all f the SFG Forum that makes it so enjoyable and easy to do.
Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing December 2016
A little wet snow falling right now, and it will be like this until Tuesday when the temperature will drop to -3C during the day then -11C night-time. Two days of sunny and cold weather then the snow really will come down Wednesday night. Sow shoes also at the ready after clearing a path to the road with my shovel.
I will console myself with perusing my first catalogue, Veseys Seeds for 2017.
One thing I can cross off my list is a Single Wheel Hoe @ $230 plus$20 surcharge plus
shipping plus taxes.
Another item I can do without; The Mantis Classic PLUS 2 Cycle Tiller/Cultivator @ $599 plus all the extra costs involved.
The beauty of Square Foot Gardening.

Yesterday we had snow. By evening it turned to rain. No snow. At least it is doing my Natural Gas bill a world of good. Compared with this time last year, it is way own.
I pay an estimated monthly amount and I am ahead of the game.

Forgot to mention that we were at a Christmas dinner on Saturday where there was a gift exchange game (gifts less than $10 each). I came away with a Smiley Chia Pet. Perfect for me because I like emoticons/emojis and I like growing things.

Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing December 2016
I aLso attended a Christmas lunch on Saturday TD, where we exchanged gifts to the value of $5.
I gave some organic chocolate-covered raisins and received a large bar of Toblerone.
My recipient (actually a friend of mine) did not fancy her gift and swapped it with another who did want it. As the gifts were wrapped and anonymous, she had to take the chance that it was something she wanted. The look on her face told me that mine would have been a lot better that what she eventually got.
Today is a beautiful day, a little cold- -5C and calm, and I have been out walking. This is where I miss my Jazz. I put on a warmer jacket, added a scarf and thicker gloves and was very comfortable. Friday, at our Christmas Parade downtown, it was wet and miserable, but the crowds were great. Colder temperatures to come later this week, with snow.

Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing December 2016
I just received some very sad news. A couple we know quite well died in a head-on collision last night. They were in their 60s. We first met them over 25 years ago. They invited us to their home several times when I was preaching at their church located about one hour from here. The man's sister died earlier this year from a heart condition.

Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing December 2016
So sorry to hear this, TD. Was it due to the weather? So many crashes here in BC today due to very slippery conditions. It really brings it home to you when you know people personally. I always think of their families when bad things happen.
Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing December 2016
KJ ... As far as I know the accident was not weather related. The cause is still under investigation. We knew something was wrong on Sunday night because we heard the medical helicopter fly over our house. For some reason their flight path from the Ottawa International Airport is such that they fly low over our neighbourhood and sometimes it feels like they are going to blow the roof off. We thought it strange that they were going out late at night. Turns out that they were going to the accident scene. Because they cannot land on the road at night (for safety reasons) they landed at a small airport close to the accident. But both of our friends suffered cardiac arrest and did not make it. He was the same age as me and she was 3 years younger and had just retired earlier this year. A 24 year old man in the other car suffered serious injuries.

Re: CANADIAN REGION: What are you doing December 2016
I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had very painful Plantar Fasciitis on one foot. I went for an x-ray and it turns out to be worse than I thought. I have two bone spurs on my heel ... one underneath and the other one at the back of the heel where the Achilles tendon is attached. The pain is so bad I can barely walk at times. Not sure how this will affect my gardening going forward.
Sorry for dumping out all my personal problems on the forum.
