wikipedia question
In another thread Toastie said: "Also how about a wikipedia (if the sfg website is going to be modified) so we can look at tips from other users about certain seeds and such."
Expand the idea farther for me. I've read Wikipedia but not added to it. I thought the forum kinda sorta did the same thing. What am I missing?

Re: wikipedia question
When I read Toastie's response I thought, "Toastie means a wiki, of which wikipedia is one." I think it would be great to have a wiki that collected everyone's recommendations for each type of plant so they could be found located centrally. There's so much wonderful advice on this forum, but due to the nature of a forum it's scattered everywhere. Creating a wiki would create an indexable resource for each plant individually. Using a wiki gives the benefit of something that is easily indexed, but I think that it would be a better use of a wiki if it was maintained by a few people from the forum who added to the wiki as recommendations were made. It would be great if the entries included links to the forum discussions as well.
I'd be happy to help develop it if you guys are interested in creating such a thing.

Speak my name and I show up
I have used a lot of different wiki's. You seem to see them popping up for just about about anything. A lot of video games will have them now to help players along
I did a quick search and found http://www.gardenology.org/wiki/Main_Page
You can see the main page has several links you can follow to other different parts of the site. For instance if you go to peppers you come up with this page http://www.gardenology.org/wiki/Pepper
which gives you various facts about that plant. You can also see edit tags where a member can update information about that plant
I would love to find a good gardening wiki to research what to grow, how to grow, and what not to plant around it

Ask and ye shall receive-sometimes!
We have been working on developing some kind of 'library' to accumulate valuable information and references that we felt were getting buried in older posts. Great stuff from posting members that wasn't showing up in the search function.
Due to your suggestion, I created a wiki last night, and several forum members are working to create a practical navigation layout. The ability to tag and index on a wiki is what is going to get us over the hump. Thanks for the idea.
Keep in mind that it is going to be a resource for forum members, consisting of info posted by forum members. It is simply a tool to catalogue and easily find info and links that are in the database of forum posts. If you have other ideas, let me know!
