Tks Marie. I'm about to build a 4x4 bed on my concrete patio. I'm going to move it, so i would put it plywood with holes.

But i have questions with potatoes i'll start with them. In your experience i can use again the square with the same mel's mix? Only adding compost?...i saw videos that the potatoes absorb many Nutrients and need to rebuild fertility of the mix

Alexandra, Welcome to the Forum from central California! glad you\'re here

Yes, you can use the same Mel's Mix by just adding more compost. I see a lot of plants in your avatar photo so if you can set the box with plywood bottom on top of an elevated area (gravel, rocks, boards, etc), that will help keep roots from other plants/trees from growing up into the box. What part of Mexico are you located?

Bien venidos!

Re rebuilding the fertility of the mix and reusing the same soil, that's how we do it. We keep adding in compost every planting. The plants consume it while they grow, and the soil level keeps shrinking down. So the next time we plant, we add more compost so the lost nutrients get replaced and to raise back the level of the soil.

It's an ongoing process, so good luck with your composting efforts! It seems there's hardly ever such a thing as too much compost!

Thank you for letting us know that you live in Veracruz with warm and humid climate.  It looks like beans, corn and squash were the earliest crops.  We call it Three (3) Sisters.  Also, many other things can be grown, maybe not in the hottest part of the summer, though.  Check out the Coastal and Tropical South Region on the home page.  Some folks plant their gardens late summer when the weather starts to cool.  Your child may want their own little garden.  A 3' x 3' box is the perfect size for young gardeners.  We are here to cheer you on!  Very Happy

Hi AlexandraMX.  Sorry I haven't answered earlier.  My husband & I own our own business & we're going into our busy season...

But I see some of the others have jumped in to answer your question.   Very Happy  You'll find that this forum is definitely a group project!

I would add that a deeper box is good for potatoes & carrots.
