Ads showing up at top again
Just upgraded this morning to Windows 10. I've also changed over to Chrome. Now the ad at the top is showing back up. Nothing on the left side, though.
Just a heads-up.

Re: Ads showing up at top again
I loaded Windows 10 when I purchased a new computer (windows 7) and had that option. So, about 2 weeks ago it automatically loaded on to my computer. I used it for about 1 week and then hit the recovery button. It was doing updates without my input and using bandwidth like crazy and pushing my bill upwards. I wish they would just leave things alone if it is not broke in the first place.AtlantaMarie wrote:Just upgraded this morning to Windows 10. I've also changed over to Chrome. Re: Ads showing up at top again
I upgraded to windows 10 and agree that it just suddenly decides to shut down and do updates whether it is convenient for me or not. And with each reboot, I have to re login to everything including the forum. But the only time I get ads is when I'm on a a guest. I had to have my windows 8.1 wiped and reinstalled when the computer was about 8 months old and when windows 10 was loaded I got back a number of things that had gone missing. And solitaire is back.

Re: Ads showing up at top again
I just got the update for windows 10 a couple days ago. I tried to let it update, but, my computer refused. I guess something is not compatable. I will have to check it out with my computer guy.
The only time ads are seen are on the front page. I don't see the ads for I have AdBlock Plus, which is free. All I see is a blank place at the top of page where the Ad goes.

Re: Ads showing up at top again
If you're using Chrome, go to the apps store and install the Adblock Super found under "extensions"... that should do the trick! Also be very careful with Win 10- it's a works in progress with updates raining down every day. Be very careful, I had a browser hijack make it through my firewall and Windows Defender wouldn't detect it. I was advised to boot the computer in Safe Mode and re-run Defender as administrator to get by the hijacker's defenses.( I've done this before, so I figured no problem!) Guess what? My computer wouldn't reboot at all
The computer was unable to recover. I had to take it in for repairs and was told that I wasn't the only one to have this happen to their computers and he said a work-around hadn't been available. I had him reinstall Win 8 and I don't regret it at all.

Re: Ads showing up at top again
I'm not surprised at this stuff happening. I keep getting the pop up that Windows 10 is recommended, but it's recommended so that Microsoft can use me as a beta tester rather than because it's all ready to go. The first six months to a year of any new operating system is usually a dicey time to buy in, as not only have lots of kinks not been worked out, but lots of the drivers that make both your old software and your old hardware work may not be written yet and it could take weeks or months to do so. Meanwhile, if you wanted to use that printer or program, too bad for you, eh?
I'd rather give it a year and pay full price than take my chances and get it for free.

I'm not even going to go that far. I have the option still available to get it back after I had hit the restore button. I don't like it - it is a hog of bandwidth and is not better at all than Windows 7.Marc Iverson wrote:I'm not surprised at this stuff happening. Re: Ads showing up at top again
My computer guy says to wait a while til they get some of the bugs out. Win 10 works fine on a newer computer.
Since we're on the subject, does anyone have win 10 and does the forum work in it? I think the forum is more important to me than a new os!

Re: Ads showing up at top again
Some of us are in rural areas that do not have cable or dsl. We have to rely on satellite or wireless. I have used satellite and disliked it. Now I am on verizon wireless and for every 1g that one goes over in usage, one is charged per g. When I upgraded to Windows 10 it ate up all of my bandwidth within a couple of days. It was updating without my permission. My bill for this month is $90 more than normal because of this. I have restored back to Windows 7 and will not go to Windows 10 until they decide to allow the user to have more say.Yardslave wrote:I got a Windows 10 upgrade FOR FREE....and it was worth every penny of it!

Re: Ads showing up at top again
Thanks for all this info, folks. Husband had a free offer for Windows 10 and tonight I finally remembered to tell him what you have saying. He's happy he didn't accept the offer at this time.

Re: Ads showing up at top again
Just got the bill from Verizon. It is $105.00 larger than normal. This is all because Windows 10 decided it had the right to take over the computer and download all sorts of updates without my permission. Sure glad I restored the Windows 7. Never again.
