Hi
A friend gave me a bag of key limes last year - I made key lime pie which I have wanted to try for a long time; thought it rated as OK for taste but not worth all the effort Any Key Lime experts? Icon_lol

However, couldn't just throw all those pips away and I now have two little plants which survived very well all winter on a south facing window sill, only to look rather sad now when the spring is arriving. The top leaf especially is yellowed and some lemon pips planted at the same time look similar plus the bottom leaves are dried and shrivelled looking.

I have two plants of each, lemon and lime, in two small pots and they must need repotting because the roots are poking out at the bottom.

Is the yellowing just the call for repotting or is it too much sun? Should they be in a bright spot with indirect sun now that the sun is getting stronger? I live in Iceland so they needed to be in the window in the winter but now I'm not sure.

Any advice or do you all just grow citrus plants in your gardens?
Thanks Any Key Lime experts? Icon_smile

It's not too much sunshine, that's for sure -- we have a tree in our yard in the US, and believe me...it gets sunshine all day, every day!

It could be a bit of stress from having their feet cramped in the little cup.

It could also be that they're wet -- Florida is full of very sandy soil (read: not too much fertilizer, and very fast-draining!) -- they really don't like being in wet, heavy soil.

It could also be various deficiencies, etc. -- but these are the easiest to correct first.

Just out of curiousity...what recipe did you use? The "real" Key lime pie recipe used by the folks raised in Florida is heaven indeed (and not very much work!)...let me know, and I'll send you the real thing.

I don't have any advice on growing key limes, but... don't be a tease, LaFee!

Please post your recipe for key lime pie! Maybe in a thread over on "Out of the Box"...

Thanks for the tip about key lime not liking too much water. Perhaps they did not get enough light either since we have such short days midwinter.
I Googled recipes for key lime pie and they all seemed very similar to each other, not sure which one I used in the end but it was just a little too sweet for me. The hassle was in the squeezing part since I don't have a lime press and they are devils to press by hand with a lemon juicer Any Key Lime experts? Icon_lol
I made some into lime marmelade and that was lovely, so fragrant!
