Protection of plants? Empty Protection of plants?

Post  3 ladybugs 5/2/2010, 10:15 am

Last night I finally got to planting my seeds in my garden! :yay: I had to plant them this weekend as I am having surgery next week and a mess of stuff after that. I think we are past the last frost (I am in 6B) however I want to know what I should watch out for temp wise for my plants. Is there a rule of thumb for temperatures? Does wind play a role? What do you cover your plants with? Is just a simple plastic drop cloth good? Or do I need something more? Thank you for any help!

Protection of plants? Empty Re: Protection of plants?

I use what's called a fleece - it's a very, very lightweight piece of soft fabric that allows air and water and light to pass through, but keeps the frost off of the tender little plants.

I think I paid about $6 for it -- but it's big enough to put over my 4' x 8' box with room to spare.

My soil doesn't come to the top of my box, so it works really well -- my grid keeps it just above the leaves of my seedlings, so they're not weighed down at all, and the stack of bricks I found behind the garage does a more than good enough job of holding it down so the wind can't play games with it.
