the corn journey
corn has put out tassels and producing ears. had to tie up sides to prevent them from blowing down, which happen during one of our storms, but they seem to have bounce back. i have sprayed BT once when the tassel started and was thinking about spraying light mineral oil on the tassel on monday when I'm off in hope of stopping the corn worm. Any thoughts on this would be welcome and other ideas to get a good crop production?

Re: the corn journey
I don't know if you want to spray the tassels since they have to drop pollen on the silks to form the ear. On the other hand, your corn looks fabulous and mine only has two silks on about a dozen stalks.

Supposed to spray on the silks. They are trying to follow the silks down into the ear to eat the ear. Worms won't be on the tassels (I don't think).

And, I thought I read somewhere on the Forum that a drop of oil where the silks come out of the ear was the way to apply it. ??
Re: the corn journey
just got off work a couple hrs ago. I meant silks. I must have been tired. Thanks everyone for correcting my mistake. appreciate everyone response. I been skiing the tassels, but the storm has help out quite a bit.

I think everyone here has done that one time or another. At least we had a nice discussion while you were working!

Re: the corn journey
The variety I ate yesterday was Early Sunglow Hybrid - DTM on package was 63 days. I planted on 4/26/14 and harvested on 6/28/14. That is 63 days from sowing. On 4/26 I also planted Silver King (82 DTM) and Silver Queen (92 DTM) so I should have three or four of weeks of fresh corn.
