Haven't been around in a long time because I'm busy growing a baby this year. (I've always said May is my harvest month  Laughing ).  Was looking up some info on arugula since a friend gave me some from his garden and I was surprised to find out how much I like it.

Anyway, thought it would be inspiring to the newbies to hear how my garden has done being totally neglected this year.  Winter is our best growing season down here and I found out I was expecting right as fall planting season started up.  Morning sickness is all day for me and lasts for months.  So I really didn't get out there much.

But I have automatic drip irrigation set up and tomato plants volunteered for the first time ever, so I have half a dozen cherry tomato plants that grew through the winter and are producing now.  A couple of pepper plants have continued, as well as all my herbs.  Swiss chard is amazing and those plants are going on 3 years now.

This weekend my 8 year old said she wanted her own garden and I actually have one whole 2 x 8 bed that's empty right now, so I told her to go at it.

It's a lot of work setting up, but things are so easy a few seasons down the road.  Love harvesting without doing any work this year!

CONGRATULATIONS on growing the most important "crop" of all  Very Happy   when is he/she due?

What a great thing to share and you'll have to post your 8 year old's garden when it gets growing as an encouragement to her (and us!)

Well, the 8 year old's melons didn't come up. Seed may be too old. But this little cutie will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. Hoping we'll be settled in a good routine in time to clear out the beds and do fall planting.
