Looks good! You did a great job on the bed. Now on to the fun of filling it up. Can't wait to see what all you put in it. Mocha looks like she was enjoying the day.

Actually its the bottom in that picture, it gets flipped to the bottom to keep grass from growing up against the bed. That way I can run a mower wheel right along this edge. I hate weed eating. LOL. (Oh yeah it just plastic lawn edging.)

Smart lady! Gotta agree w/ Jimmy - that was a terrific idea...
Hmmm... I wonder if DH would mind re-doing the beds at this point...?

Phase 2
Been having a lot of health issues this year so it have been a rough start for a first year SFG. I have to wait until my GF is home at the same time as I am to get anything done, she has to do most of the heavy work. We got a 3 x 4 section completed as far as the MM goes.
Thanks,
Carguy
BTW the compost tumbler worked great!! Throw all 3 parts of your MM in it and take a walk about with it, roll it into the garden bed, turn upside down, empty, rake level, ready for the next batch, just that easy.....thumbs way up for the tumbler, one of the best $20.00 I ever spent!
Thanks,
Carguy

Great bargain indeed.
I like the looks of your soil -- obviously plenty of vermiculite in there. I think sometimes the smaller stuff tends to be less visible in photographs. But it's clear from your pictures alone that you'll have solid water retention and aeration with that mix.

You know Marc, funny thing is there is a bit more compost more that a 1/3 part in this mix, not much more but just a bit.Marc Iverson wrote:Great bargain indeed.

Looks good at any rate. I envy you your ability to toss everything for your Mel's Mix in your tumbler and just roll it about. That's gotta be the easiest way I've ever heard of for making MM.

Those compost / exercise balls were a great buy by GF.
Are you fluffing the peat moss before measuring? And wetting while mixing?

Yes I believe you are correct, this is one of the easiest ways I have seen, maybe a concrete mixer would would better on a larger volume.Marc Iverson wrote:Looks good at any rate. Maybe it just the brand of Peat I have but it just fell apart in the bag was very loose, just stirred it a bit with a hand held fork, wetting wasn't required as all the mixing was done in the tumbler so dust wasn't a issue.sanderson wrote: Those compost / exercise balls were a great buy by GF.

Re: (Phase 1) Construction of 10' x 4' Bed
Made a bit of progress this weekend, built a system for training my tomatoes up, plant on doing a combo of dropping string from the top and wrapping them around and doing the Florida weave from the 2 uprights. Added the string for the grids, & Planted 3 Tomatoes, 2 Peppers and 2 squares Bush Beans 9 seeds each. It’s a start, really running late but hopefully things will produce.

Looking good!
Happy bean plants grow pretty quickly, so you may yet do quite well with them. It's early in the season to count yourself out, and remember, even green peppers and green tomatoes, should your stuff not have time to ripen, can make good eating green or ripen on a counter top.

Re: (Phase 1) Construction of 10' x 4' Bed
Thanks Marc for the words of encouragement! Hey I am having fun, this is my first year at SFG, still learning as I go, hopefully next year I will have a better grip on how this works. The hard part of building everything won’t be as much as a issue as it has been this year.Marc Iverson wrote:Looking good!
