I need a simple method to translate the info from my seed packet into a SFG.

Is there anyone who can assist?

Welcome to the wonderfu world of SFG. I'm not sure if you mean plant spacing or yield per package. If plant spacing, then most of us go by the SFG book. If you are planting something that Mel doesn't cover, then the rule of thumb is to plant at the final spacing on the packet, ignoring the distance between rows. So is something is to be planted 6" apart in rows 18" apart, we'd plant 4 per square and ignore the row spacing. Hope that is not as clear as mud. If so, please re-ask the question.

sure! many of us can help. What are you looking for? I strongly suggest getting the book, it covers plant spacing and lots of other infor that would be really helpful to your question.

The basics are
12 inches apart= 1/sf
6 inches apart= 4/sf
4 inches apart= 9/sf
3 inches apart= 16/sf

My add ons are
18-24 inches apart= 1/2 sf
8-10 inches apart= 2/sf (I plant diagonally)

feel free to ask questions and welcome aboard!!

I have both books, but darn it all if I cannot find either of them...lol... I do know the basics but there are many things not in the book. (and many more that I have forgotten...) like this I got iceburg lettuce, is that 4 per square (i hope b/c that is how I planted it...lol) or is that a single square one? also some of the common herbs, like oregano, basil, cilantro and dill

you could go to gardeners.com and use the kitchen planner and it will also tell you the spacing for many plants. They are not always the same as Mel or seed packets, so if you want to be exact I would go with the guide chocolatepop gave you. By the way, many people plant more lettuce than spacing allows, and then eat the baby leaves as they thin them.

Haahaa, I understand. I just got lucky that someone got me a second book for my birthday last year so I always have at least one Wink

What does the directions say for your iceberg? As far as spacing? Basically just follow that. I planted mine 6/sf, but then I will thin them to 4/sf.

I've only did Basil last year and I did 2/sf and that seemed ok.
