Was thinking about getting some Red Inchelium. How do they taste?

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I planted the garlic on Jan 1, and harvested on June 21 (was trying to plant on shortest day of the year, but missed it by a couple weeks, and then harvest on longest day of the year).
Onion was from seed and planted on Jan 18, and harvested July 4.
Curing started on harvest days, respectively. I cooked up the smallest garlic (12g, dinky) and a small onion sliced up with some breakfast sausages. The onion has a LOT of heat! The garlic seems perfect, and they both perfumed the house and the sausage amazingly.
The five biggest heads of garlic have been set aside for planting this winter.

I think my sunflower plant can take me in a fair fight...it's taller than me, and it keeps giving me dirty looks.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
There is currently V8 juice simmering on the stove.
Last year I posted my experience with making homemade V8 juice. I wasn't a fan of the watered down salty commercial stuff but making it at home with control over reduced salt and I must say I'm thrilled with the rich tasting results of mixed heirloom tomatoes and veggies to make V8. It tastes sweet. I can throw in frozen parsley and even chunks of frozen broccoli stalks and can't taste those. And with a little kick of tabasco sauce on the way down must admit I love the stuff. Have to wrangle with my tomato plans as to drink the vegetable mixed concoction or save the maters and can it for sauce. It's a nice problem to have when there's 3 or four pounds of ripe tomatoes sitting on the counter and table but I don't feel like canning.

That is a nice problem to have. I feel the same way about whether to use tomatoes for regular fresh eating, for gazpacho, or even green for chutney.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Wish I could eat my 10 lbs. of squash (in addition to what's in the freezer and pending). I couldn't weigh a large Romanesco because I need to purchase a scale that measures more than 5 lbs....
Never again will I plant more than FOUR squash seeds, each of a different variety.
Molly: Your seeds are definitely "prolific." Seed #2 definitely has ribs, and seems to be trying to develop a crookneck.

Meanwhile, tonight's menu includes home-grown salad (greens + a small tomato + cilantro), Fortex beans with garlic, potato (mine aren't quite ready yet), and steak with garlic/basil (home-grown) marinade.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Like Floyd, we did burgers after church tonight. We put fresh basil on the burgers before melting the cheese and it is really great. Our neighbor gave us a spaghetti squash so we roasted that and put some of our homemade tomato sauce on it...man was that good! Oh, a big slice of a yellow tomato fresh out of the garden went on the burger as well. Life is sooooo good!

corn!!
Nothing like fresh corn!! We planted this in early July!! So good and sweet, ultimate fast food! Put an ear in the microwave for about 1- 1 1/2 minutes, cut off the "big end", hold the silk and the ear falls out with NO silk!! We ate this within 2 minutes of picking!!

I picked these this weekend. While the Bell and Banana peppers are doing well the Tomatoes are at their end. Soon it will be time for Fall planting and cooler weather.

Oh man, that's probably my favorite fruit! I miss that sooooo much from when I was living in the tropics when younger. The desire to steal some from a neighbor's trees used to drive me half insane, as a boy. Lucky you!
If you lived nearby I'd say PICK AWAY!!! Have you considered growing a small tree indoors and putting it outside in the summer? I got seeds!!!

Thank you so much for the offer! But it seems everything about our lot is built to deny sunlight. Because of the Homeowners Association Agreement, we can't do a fenced-in garden in front (and we would have to fence it if we didn't want deer and rabbits to get it all), in the back we are hard up against a steep wild forested hill and so have very little room and not much sun, and the house is small and doesn't have any good southern-facing windows. That's why I do almost all of my gardening on property that belongs to my neighbors!
But if things ever change, I hope you'll still have some of those seeds available. Star apples (what we called them) are an amazing treat, and if you can even find them at the supermarket, it's just not the same as fresh off the tree. And around here we don't get the exotic stuff anyway.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
OMG! Check this out:
From this...
Lebanese Light Green summer squash picked today
To this...
This was so amazingly like pasta I couldn't believe it. To make the "noodles"
I used one of those apple peeler/slicer/corer contraptions but removed everything but the peeler, and just peeled the squash over & over until it got too small, all while the sauce was cooking. Then dumped the "noodles" into the bubbling sauce & cooked to my preferred consistency.
Mama Mia!!!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
What a great idea and what a cool looking dish! It's great that it got the consistency to hold sauce and be so easy to manipulate without breaking.
I often peel carrots that way, curling them up into little curlicues to put around the edge of a salad, or taking the slices, chopping once or twice, and stirring into a hot veggie dish for quick-cooking color. And I've made a "cold pasta" salad with zucchini and carrots that way. I've never turned a regular squash into a flat noodle in a hot preparation before, though. Looks like something fun to try!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Healthy and appetizing looking at the same time. Also, gluten free, depending on how one makes the meatballs, correct?
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Marc, I read online somewhere that this particular squash was firm enough to hold up perfectly for pasta. They are correct! There are also recipes for zucchini & others that I've never read due to fear of mushiness. Along with the idea to use a Julliene peeler, which I don't have.
Sanderson, you pegged the one thing not from scratch - the meatball. Mom buys the gluten free Italian "Cooked Perfect" brand because they are so yummy. I indulge occasionally since I don't buy them once she heads back to FL for the winter.

Looks terrific!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
There are four pounds of tomatoes roasting in the oven with garlic, salt and pepper for roasted tomato soup. Love the way the house smells
For lunch I made some sort of an Italian Mess I suppose. Started off gently wilting cut up swiss chard in half olive oil half butter, sautéed garlic, onion, sliced eggplant, tomatoes and banana peppers, added saved squeezed tomato juice from a prior adventure, s and p then topped it off with grated cheese. With a cup of coffee and an apple I'm good till late this evening.
