Hi everyone. My daughter and I are planning her flower SFG. She wants to plant Morning Glories. Does anyone know how many to plant per square? I've run a search in the forum and I've gone through the latest edition book. Can't find anything about Morning Glories. Thanks all!! flower

It says in Wiki somewhere to plant the seed 8 to 10 inches apart.
They grow to 10 ft in height so need support.
According to that I suggest planting a single row three seeds per two squares so you will need six seeds per 4ft bed.
It doesn't sound much but then I have never grown Morning Glories.

I would make sure you really want Morning Glories...they can be pretty invasive. Not sure how much you know about them. Wink

morning glories are great for the garden as they Attract Predators like hover flies that eat aphids....down side is....moring glories are really invasive....they send out long roots like blackberry plants

maybe she could plant them in a container.... Very Happy ....thats what we do with invasive plants.....it keeps them just where we want them Very Happy

Morning glories are so rampant around here that I rip them out at the first sign. Will take over and crowd out other plants.

I have grown a full cover of gorgeous morning glories up a porch fence railing and loved it. I looked at two packages I have on hand, one said thin 6 to 8 inches apart the other said thin 8-10 inches apart. In sf garden terms you would plant them either 4 to a square at the very most, or 1 to 2 per square. Based on how big they got the last time I grew them, personally I'd go with 2 or 3 per square. Enjoy!

My daughter wants to plant Morning Glories - How many per square? Empty The Coolest Morning Glories I Have Ever Seen

Post  Windmere 3/4/2013, 5:19 pm

Today, while shopping for vermiculite, I came across some seeds for Picotee Blue Morning Glories. The look super cool, so I bought the seeds for my ten year old daughter. I was going to post a link to a google image link, but I'm afraid of doing something inappropriate by doing that. Check them out on google images if you've never seen one. They look amazing! flower

I have been growing morning glory flowers on and off for years along my fence. One year I decided I didn't want them, and he asked where are they? Too funny. I now grow them in my front yard up my lamp post. After you plant them and they grow, in the fall when the blooms fall off I pick the seeds and save them in a paper bag to replant the following year. I did this at my son's house and they grew wonderfully.

You and your daughter enjoy your morning glory.Very Happy

My daughter wants to plant Morning Glories - How many per square? Empty Thanks all for your advice about morning glories

Post  Windmere 3/4/2013, 9:53 pm

I planted morning glories when I was just a boy. I now do remember that they do take over. Thanks for jarring my memory folks. Now we will probably not put them in a bed.
