New SqFter from Long Beach,CA
Hey all,
Like most posts here, new to the whole gardening scene. I am a 53 y.o. man and just acquired a home with a great backyard. I am hoping to find a new lifetime hobby in creating a great outdoor space and growing healthy vegitables.
I have constructed my first raised garden bed, 4' x 8' x 16" deep. I built the raised bed from a kit bought on line and I have filled it with "garden soil" purchased from a local nursery supplier. I have an underground automatic sprinkler system which I have tapped into to supply water to drip irrigation system for the raised bed.
So far I have decided that I will need to remove some of the soil from the bed and replace it with 6" of the Mel's mix. I will be starting a compost pile soon, lots to learn there. I will also need to learn more about completing the drip irrigation system. Since the drip irrgation system will be fed from a sprinkler head in the sprinkler zone which waters a portion of my backyard, I will need to learn how to set the zone water times and durations so that the garden and the yard get proper irrigation from the shared zone valve.
So that is my intro. Looking forward to sharing my experiences and learning from yours.

Re: New SqFter from Long Beach,CA

I wish you success in your very first year of gardening and that you get hooked for life.

I think we have some things in common
We are new to sfg'ing, and I also started with what I thought I knew. I bought the book after building some beds. Living and learning.
Welcome from another new sfg fan.
