I've take receipt of two small well developed GOJI bare root stocks this afternoon .
Do any of you grow GOJI berries in tubs or pits filled with MM ?

Do any of you have any stories to tell about them especially handling minus 15 centigrade to plus 40 centigrade capabilities ?

There is some good info on Folia about it's cultivation requirements.

According to the Wikipedia listing there is some evidence that anyone taking blood thinners should not consume these fruits as it inhibits the warfarin metabolism and may lead to poor blood clotting/hemorrhage.

Thanks Camp , I've had a good read of the first link it's not really what I'm after I'm afriad .

Re the blood thinning ....I might be able to come off long term asprin use that I've been on for 17 years if I use the berries . That is part of the reason I want to grow them for the 17 yrs on the asprin has made its mark on my tubes , bits & bobs . So a years rest under my doctors supervison might be just the doctors orders.

There is nowt about soil type in the first link that is useful to me .. My info says no cold clay or heavy soil or water logged feet , so I'm looking to use the two haves of a 310 litre barrel that was a failure as a compostmaking rotating drum and became a very very leak water barrrel instead Laughing

I'm trying to see if anyone has used MM or if it is too rich and will end up as producing masses and masses of leaf & twig but little fruit.

A half barrel of quality MM weight around 300 pounds , if it has to be mother earth it will be more like 450 pounds so I want to get it correct first time round to save me wasting the time & effort because of using an incorrect growth medium for the plants.. I'd obviously prefer MM if it gives sensible results.

GOJI Beries Empty Goji berries from seed

Post  BertieFox 5/8/2013, 6:32 am

I've pm'ed Plantoid about this, but I've been lucky enough to find some dried Goji berries in a French market (loose ones). Having bought a few grams worth, I extracted the seed (v sticky job!) and sowed them on damp vermiculite in a petri dish, in the propagator. They are 'up', producing a good shoot, in a week to ten days. I've now pricked them on into seed compost and will have to decide what to do next if they grow on ok.
If anybody is growing them on the square foot system, is a square foot sufficient for a plant or would it be best to leave them to form much larger plants? From what I've read, it takes three years to fruit from small plants, so maybe I will have a long wait from seed. Who knows? But it's always fun finding out.
