Hello from Middle Tennessee

I was on the old forum but took most of the second half of 2009 away from the internet and posting much.

I have four 4' X 4' plots I put in last year and had good to great luck with them.

I designed the plots to more or less feed my salsa canning addiction so I had 8 tomato plants and at least 6 different kinds of peppers. Also did a fair bit of lettuce, summer squash, and zucchini.

I had near complete failures with Broccoli and onions. I had mixed results with my zucchini and squash. They started out with a flourish and one died shortly after the first few fruits were mature. The others lasted a bit longer but I have some blossom end rot and very low to no production later in the season. I also had some mixed results with cucumbers. Had a few vines die early on me after good early production.

This year I plan on even more peppers, more tomatoes, beans, and even greater variety of lettuces and spinach. I will have a few squash and zucchini again just because I love them so much. Cantaloupe again this year as well since they did pretty well last year.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you were a victim of the same lousy gardening weather that a lot of folks back east were complaining about.

I have taken a similar approach to planting: I over-plant so I can be sure to get enough of what I want when the weather is poor. The down side to that approach is that when the weather is really good, like it was for us last summer, I've got veggies coming out my ears. I can't can it, freeze it, eat it, or give it away fast enough!
