Garden Time SFG Mix

Folks,
I was at Lowes today and saw a pallet of Garden Time SFG Mix in 2 cubic feet bags. It had Mel's picture on it and said that it was for Square Foot Gardening. $13.97 per bag. Will it be cheaper for me to mix my own or should I spring for this stuff? I've already bought a large 6 cu. ft. bag of Vermiculite. I could always bring it back.

Re: Garden Time SFG Mix
Your Lowes HAS IT!! Woohoo!!!
Not in my area yet.
It will take four bags to fill a 4'x4'x6" box, so the cost will be $56 to fill with the pre-mixed GardenTime. You'll have to calculate out what your cost to fill the box is, depending on what you paid for the vermiculite, peat and compost.
For me it will end up costing about the same, but some find that mix your own costs less. When it's available here, I'm going for the GardenTime! (vermiculite price varies quite a bit... I paid $30 for 4 cuft. - and NOW, two weeks after I bought, I'm finding sales on the compost and peat.)

DIY is cheaper around here!
I know when we did ours, it was cheaper than that. We have 3 SFG boxes. I don't think it cost even close to that. But I'd be interested in finding out what others have to say.
Our vermiculite was only $20 and the prices for peat and compost are good here in NE Indiana. Guess we're pretty fortunate around here in NE Indiana
Take care!

Re: Garden Time SFG Mix
I picked up the 6 Cubic Ft. bag of coarse vermiculite for $49.00 at Eastside Discount Nursery here in El Paso, TX. I hope that was reasonable. My son and I are going to build either two 2' X 8' boxes or two 4' x 4' boxes. I'll put up some pics as soon as we get things going.
