I am rapidly running out of space in my garden; everything I grow has to be inside an electric/barrier fence because of the local critters. I couldn't resist though when my friend said she had too much Bloody Butcher corn and gave me 3 seedlings. Now I'm trying to figure out where to put them.

I bought another concrete mixing tub (I have no more room in my SFG beds for tall things) and rearranged the existing ones, then realized that my pumpkin is training over the south side of its tub, leaving half open:

Something ate the vines on the other side. Very Happy

So I started wondering if instead of adding a whole new 2'x3' tub and squeezing it in, if I couldn't plant the corn on the free side of that tub? Too crowded? Is there anything I *can* plant on that side?

If I use the new tub I'll plant some pole beans in with the corn and maybe something small and less invasive in the space that's left.

You're supposed to be able to plant 4 corn per foot, and if you can train that vine out of the box it should all fit. However, I'm wondering if 3 plants is enough for pollination? Somebody with more experience should be along to say what to do; maybe you can hand-pollinate them.

I think you're right about the pollination so I'm planning to hand-pollinate, and save whatever kernels I get for next year. Smile

Three is quite a small amount and I think the pollination would be iffy so it is probably a good idea to do it yourself!
