Strawberries? Empty Strawberries?

Post  moldeen85 7/3/2012, 9:16 am

So, I planted my strawberry plants but I don't know if I have any growing yet or not. I have two of these popping up where I planted them though. On the off chance it is a strawberry I thought I should ask before I pull it... sorry for the bad focus on this one.

Any thoughts? Thank you!flower

I don't think that is a strawberry but don't pull it because of me, I could be wrong...

Did you do strawberry transplants or from seed?

This looks like a weed.

Did you grow from seed? It is apparently very hard to grow strawbs from seed.
I would agree that does look like a weed.

None of my strawberries ever looked like that, even as starts.
It's definitely a weed.

I vote weed. I'm thinking a weedy type of sedum. If we weren't having a drought, I'd have that in my yard, too, with little white flowers eventually, if memory serves.

I'm with the consensus that this is a weed. A new strawberry plant would look like this:

Strawberries? 109486 Thank you everyone for the help. I'll be pulling them both when I get home. I have strawberry transplants, but it was pretty much just roots that I put in. They haven't done anything yet then... I'm sort of nervous I waited too long or did them wrong. Sad

they need lots of water.....im not sure what the temp is there where you live....but if its been kinda hot and dry they may not have come up because they are in need of more water......i would try more watering and see if you can get them to perk up.....i have found strawberry plants are pretty hardy...they can take a lot of stress and still be able to come back.....but...they love their water and will become wimpy if they dont get enough.....

hugs

I just ran across some info and I'm pretty sure this "weed" is purslane. Evidently, it's an edible weed. lol

In any case... not strawberry. I think my strawberries are dead. I'm calling in for replacement. Sad

Yep! That's purslane, pigweed, and various other names it goes by. Definitely edible, never tried it and feel just a bit guilty when I pull some out of the garden.....
