Another Ohioan Checking In
Spring will come even though there are still 7' snow piles in my yard here along the North Coast in Cleveland 5b. It's good to see you all again. Here's to happy gardening and lots of posting.

My dad lives in Copley, he's sure getting his money's worth out of his snowblower this year!
Re: Another Ohioan Checking In
welcome to the boards!
i had to shovel off my sfg boxes, lol. but the sun is warming and melted off the little bit on the boxes i couldn't get myself w/o hitting the dirt.
soon very soon all this snow will be a memory

Re: Another Ohioan Checking In
Hi Betty Ann. Even though my boxes aren't far from the back door, I would have to use a plow to get through knee-deep drifts to get to them. So far I haven't been that ambitious . Hopefully we will get some warming this week. We've had sun, can the warmth be far behind?
Your family avatar is great. I remember how much your oldest one enjoys the garden. I was at your garden with Mel during the symposium and your little guy just couldn't keep his fingers away from any thing ready to eat! It was wonderful. I know you are going to have a fantastic yield this year. You are totally devoted.
Looking forward to watching you and your garden happen.

claire - when i saw your avatar pic up now i remember you!
being a distracted mommy with three young kids - if i can make sfg work, ANYONE can!
my goal this year - to water the plants more faithfully, *grin* even with neglect sfg thrive!
we can't wait to get to the backyard to expand - we're planning on at least doubling our boxes this year! but we too have about 2' of snow and ice in backyard so it'shard to get to. i was ok with shoveling paths to our boxes in the front yard - and you should have seen the mailman when he passed by and i was shoveling the front yard of snow, lol. but the shoveling worked for us - i cleared off enough snow off and around another box so we could prep the soil. (with little kids, i split up the tasks so i don't get all frustrated when their attention span wavers). today we fully intend to plant some cold weather crops - we have brussel sprouts and carrots and all sorts of stuff that we didn't try last year but now we want to.
we hadn't even put our boxes in until mid may last year. i think my kids old website is still up here's the link to our sfg last year:

(i really need to download all 5 gazillion pics off that site before it goes away but i just never have enough time to do all i want to)
and here's a link to the day you were at our house - what an honor to meet all you wonderful gardeners - and to have Mel give a 'thumbs up' to my front yard sfg. *grin*

Re: Another Ohioan Checking In
Boffer, the sun is shining here. The snow is melting. It is SO good to be back on the SFG web site. I am getting excited about my garden. I can almost see it behind the plowed up piles of snow.
Deborah, we're all gonna have tons (as in reap) of fun this summer!
And BettyAnn, your pictures are wonderful. They bring back the memories of that wonderful visit. I've told my husband about your prolific garden in no-space-at-all.
Now I can show him the pictures.
Ok, now for a good laugh...
I'm mostly a flower gardener. It works wonderfully in an sfg. Little landscapes spots throughout the yard. But I'm really, really going to try veggies this year. Now, you have to understand that not only haven't I grown many vegetables (my DH does that) I also don't "do kitchens" as he does most all of the cooking (and shopping). Well, we had our neighborhood ladies brunch and seed exchange this morning. So I volunteered to take a fruit bowl. I went to the local grocery store to by the items I needed. One item was mangos. So I took two of them over to the produce guy and asked him how to tell if these mangos were ripe. He said, "Well, first of all, those are avacados."
Actually, ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING!.
Okay, with my husband's help, my fruit salad in a made-by-me syrup (without avacados) was just fine. He was so proud of me that he made me take a picture of the fruitbowl!
Bet all you fresh fruit and veggies guys can't top this!
