Mushroom compost
I went to Lowe's today and BLAM there is was... I was looking all over the state in March when I made my MM for this stuff, and now it's there... Any chance I could buy some and leave it in my shed for the fall?

I say GO FOR IT!!! I load up on peat and compost when it goes on the 'end of season' sales out here (basically June & July) and pile them in the shed until needed - or leave several bags in the trunk of my car for winter traction on the ice! Amazing the grip you can get with 4 bales of peat in the trunk!

Re: Mushroom compost
I sure hope so, cause I've got 4 of the 5 composts sitting in my garage waiting until I can get the 5th to make my fall replenishment blend.

mushroom compost
Do you need a compost blend for replenishing? I read the book, but loaned it to my daughter, now. I thought home-made compost was fine for replenishing, but the mixture was best for getting started? I need my book!!! Her birthday is early July, so I'll just have to get her her own book.

Yes you replenish your squares with a trowel of compost after each harvest.
According the the book a good quality well rounded homemade compost made with a mixture of materials is ideal to start with.
The blend of 5 or more purchased composts is recommended as an alternative to homemade compost if you decide to not make your own compost for some reason.

Re: Mushroom compost
20 bags would probably fit in the trunk of my Buick Boat! On 2 inches of slick ice even front wheel drive gets a bit of help around corners by having a few extra hundred pounds in the trunk. Realized it after I emptied the trunk (finally) and couldn't figure out (at first) why suddenly I was making turns and the front end wasn't leading..... (it was my first winter driving the Land Yacht)
Must have been hard to adjust from California to winter.
IN the far far north one year, I had a 64 ford falcon ( I know I SHOULD have saved it.... but)..... learned the value of a full trunk....
BUT I was NOT a gardener then, so just had a trunk of sand
