Redneck Rabbit Protection

Found anything I could to put around green beans and peppers at night as the rabbits have been partying in the SFG while we're asleep...wire mesh is a pain in the butt and expensive. Also spread some coffee grounds around the four eggplants I have (lower right) as I think I saw my first flea beetle today...small and black and when I went to squish it, it jumped like a flea from a leaf down to the soil.

At first last year, I put a 2 ft tall fence around the edge of my garden boxes, and that worked great to keep the rabbits and the cats out. BUT that didn't do anything to keep the deer out. So this is what I have now:

Landarch actually I think they look artsy! Lots of color. I’d smile if I walked by and I’m guessing most folk would know you were fighting a battle for your crops. Hats off to your creativity!

Little Sapphire - I used the same simple posts with netting around my new garden to keep the deer (and rabbits) out. What did you do for a “gate”? I have something I basically just lay across my opening, but wish I had something a tad bit more attractive.

My gate is pretty simple. First I rolled out enough netting to go the whole way around the garden. But instead of attaching the end of the netting to where I started (and therefore making it impossible to get in, lol), I attached the end to a 5 ft piece of conduit. To close the "gate", I rest the conduit into the U part of the U-bar and put a hair tie around the top of the two bars to keep them together. It's simple but effective!

Haha! So did I! When we were kids my parents had a live trap to collect the rabbits and 'set them free at camp' ... as I got older I realised the rabbits were out of the trap, but no one left to set them free in the woods and we were eating peculiar tasting 'chicken and spaghetti'.... now that's redneck! affraid

I don't have a rabbit problem here but I've read that hair spread around the garden area (human or animal) will keep them away from your garden. Couldn't say how well it works, as I've only experienced the above method Embarassed

Rabbit is good eating. And these are eating good food and free range, what could be better?

Biz Nonna used to catch the sparrows and starlings in her garden and put them in the spaghetti. Laughing

Baahhh that is funny! Spaghetti must be good for disguising mystery meat or just plain tasty with it haha! But I don't think I'd ever want to know what starlings taste like!
