make a redneck air-conditioner
This is a easy way to get some cool air! I'm going camping in a tent next week, and I'm taking my redneck air-conditioner with me so I can stay cool It's easy to make and it works!

Neat! Camping, eh? How long is your extension cord?

A swamp cooler!
My grandfather used to put a wet bale of straw outside the window, then put a box fan IN the window...worked really well, unless the humidity was very, very high.

Where do you plug it in when you are in a tent?
We used to do something close when I worked at a mom and pop grocery store. But we just set big fans behind bags of ice. Went through lots of ice. We got grumpy when hot customers came and blocked the fans so they could cool off. It was the only time we could tell them, "go jump in the river" and not have it sound like an insult.

My dad said camping isn't what it was when he was a boy,now days they provide you with electricity, water and satellite dish for TV,may have wireless internet too.
My mom said adding just water to the cooler and running it that way would make a nice humidifier and circulate the air for some of the small homemade greenhouses.

OK, that makes sense, when I think "tent camping" I think of strapping my tent to a pack, parking the car and taking a long walk up the trail. But campgrounds have everything (no longer dependent on a current bush for electricity) including ice. Have way too much fun! Stay cool is probably a given.
Re: make a redneck air-conditioner
Love the idea. We usually put a window unit AC in our tent the problem with that is putting it outside the tent at the window limits the cool air we are really getting. The back of the AC need to be outside so putting the whole thing inside is not an option and putting it in one of the unused zip doors still requires a way to seal the door around the unit. This would solve a number of those issues and really for us only would be used at night. We are in the pool, hiking, or sight seeing in the day.
