Plastic on my outdoor seeds?
I have planted my very first seeds outdoors Sunday afternoon. I currently have the boxes covered with clear plastic and was planning on keeping them covered until I see sprouts. Yesterday/this morning I got really paranoid that somehow the seeds would get too warm but when I checked the soil temp about 8:30 this a.m. (outdoor air temp was 60 degrees) it was 60 degrees or even a little below so I left the plastic for the day. Am I making a mistake in leaving the plastic (I plan to cover at night regardless until overnight temps are a little more consistent)?
*note - I posted this in another thread but wanted to put another "feeler" out*

Re: Plastic on my outdoor seeds?
check the temps under the plastic. even on days when it is cold, it can get 100º or more under there.
Re: Plastic on my outdoor seeds?
I think if the sun shines it heats up, but if the sky is overcast I should imagine it is OK to leave the plastic on for now, but as rowena syas, check the temperature.

Is your plastic laying on the soil or is it up on frames of some sort?

Don't put in direct sun
If you put them in direct sun, congratulations you just made a solar oven.
Now get them in the shade.

Re: Plastic on my outdoor seeds?
Yes, the plastic was raised and resting on the top of the bed. I decided they were getting too hot after posting and removed the plastic. Thanks for the input everyone.
