seeds started in plastic greenhouse zone 8a
Before I left my son's house in mid Feb , I planted some seeds in cells and put them in the plastic greenhouse. This is the one we moved the habenero pepper into to try and overwinter it.
Outside temps got as low as 26 but daytime temps were always above freezing. As you can see we had varying success, but my son is going to move them to a dappled shady spot during the daytime for the next week and try to transplant Sat.
chard and lettuce
spinach
kale
The overwintered hab pepper actually bloomed inside the greenhouse and produced these mini peppers.

Kay, I've always sown spinach direct. Do you ever have any issues transplanting? I have actually considered trying to start some indoors and transplant in a few weeks just to get some extra time out of them before the heat sets in.

Rooster -
I'm trying it. I started some indoors about mid-month last month. According to the charts, I'm supposed to be able to sow 5 weeks before last frost, which for me is about now. I'm thinking I'm going to try and harden them off this week and put them in next weekend. Considering I've never grown it before at all, I have nothing to compare it to...lol. Will let you know what happens.

I've transplanted box store starts without problems. First time I've started my own.
Last year I transplanted 6 and sowed 6 at the same time. Had some problem with germination on the sowed 6, only got 4 viable plants.

Hi Kay,
You should be able to sow spinach outside. I plant it in the fall, it over winters just fine and goes gangbusters in the spring. Everything else looks good.

Hi Kay
I have grown spinach in greenhouse several times and had no trouble transplanting.
I am currently growing it in the greenhouse and we have had a few good meals of spinach already. It is actually growing like crazy, without any lights. I guess perhaps we finally got the right amount of light.

Thanks Maria and Kay Heck I've got nothing to lose by starting some inside. If it works, I'll have more spinach. If not, I'll have as much as I've had in years past
