I picked up some pea seeds, "dark seeded early perfection." I don't think these are the kind that grow up though - I'm not sure why. There's no height listing on the packet. It says:

Sow seeds 2" apart in double rows spaced 6" apart with 24" between each set of rows.

Does this mean I should plant about 9 per square like green beans?

I plant about 15 per square.
They may not grow to 7 feet, but they may get close to 5 feet; you will probably still want a trellis of some sort.

here is some more info about that plant

Most peas grow 6-7 ft tall though I bought some Little Marvel Peas, heirloom from Comstock Seeds, that only grow 18 inches, so they'll be sown like my bush beans.

I think if I bought peas and there was no other height info, I'd expect them to be tall vining types.
