Sugar snap peas in bush variety?
Do sugar snap peas/beans come in bush varieties? The ones I tried to grow last year, that some bug ate, were a vining type.

Sugar snap peas do come in a dwarf variety. I'm growing some this year that only get 2' tall. I wanted them for the front row and because they would finish up quickly (we get hot here fast).

Elliphant, what is the spacing on the pea bushes?
I would imagine they take substantially more space than vining peas. That isn't a bad thing. But, I think it's like planting indeterminate vs determinate (bush) tomatoes. I'm sure you are, but I guess I'm saying....plan ahead.

Actually the bush sugar snap peas don't take any more room than the vining. Vining go 8 per square. I plant bush type peas just like beans, 9 per square.

Re: Sugar snap peas in bush variety?
FBmom's advice is probably the safer advice BUT I go 16 per square and the only extra work I have to do is put in a small boarder type fence to keep them from pushing into the neighboring squares. Works well in my boxes with wooden grids. Not as much support for the little fence pieces with twine grids.
Debs.....hope that makes sense

Re: Sugar snap peas in bush variety?
Yup. They aren't really bushes, just dwarf vines. I've got them planted in the same box as a vining type and the only difference is that they are short and produce quickly (and will finish off quickly as well). I did them 9/sq

Awesome...thanks for the clarification, guys. Now I know what to tell my mom when she says, "What did you learn today?" LOL.
