My guy's very supportive and helpful when I want to do something or need him to help with a project. But I sometimes start things and then lose interest so he was a little hesitant to spend the time and money on it. But since it was important to me he spent a few hours earlier this week building 2 - 3x6 boxes for my garden. And then spent several hours digging and shoveling gravel to prepare the place to put the beds (an old playground area that is now a mix of gravel, dirt and weeds that needed something done with it).

We are doing the work in stages, but the area for the first stage is about 11 x 25 feet. That is where the boxes will go. We set them down to see how they fit and later he said, I'm thinking maybe we need another box because it would fit perfectly in the extra room. Hubby's fully onboard now :-) 418730

I don't know if we'll really do it, but just thought it was great he was getting so into now, too. I told him I would fill a third box with strawberries. That might sell him on it, since he drinks a fruit smoothie just about every morning for breakfast. We buy many pounds of strawberries and other fruits when the farm stand has them cheap and then freeze them.

I was going to add some pictures, but my laptop is being repaired and I'm stuck with a computer that is SOOOOOO slow. I'll have to add them later.

I couldn't figure out how to edit the previous post, so here are the pictures:

My family working. You can sort of see the lines where the timbers were around the original 42'x35' playground, as well as the one in the foreground next to its original spot. All the other timbers are marking off the new area.Hubby's fully onboard now :-) _mg_0613

From the other side- We are making the area smaller - 26'x26', but since it's such a huge project to dig this all up, we divided the smaller area into two parts and are going to finish an 11' x 26' strip first as quickly as we can so we can get our sfg boxes set up soon.Hubby's fully onboard now :-) _mg_0710

Here's the 11'x26' ready to be filled with clean gravel. (Just have to clean all the gravel we have.) In the background is my chicken coop and the garbage can next to it is my new compost bin.Hubby's fully onboard now :-) _mg_0711

Wow - jealous of all the space! But awed at all the work you put in preparing it! You are going to LOVE this! Smile My boxes just sit on cinderblocks in my yard...pale by comparison... Smile That's what is so cool about SFG - it really reflects each person's unique personality and creativity. Fantastic start and looks like the whole family is getting in the act! Smile

Thanks, all. UnderTheBlackWAlnut, my boxes would just be sitting on the ground on top of the old garden, except that we had to do something with that old playground area. We were talking about it last year, long before I had the idea for the garden. It was SOOO ugly. It just happened to work out well as a place to put the new garden. :-)
