Square Watermelons?
My little guy was watching youtube garden videos with me--and there were a bunch about growing square watermelons. Is this possible? I need to find out before we start planting--he already plans to grow a gigantic pumpkin like the ones hollowed out for some annual pumpkin boat race. (Did I mention that I can be really gullible sometimes?)

Yes it is possible. I saw them in Japan. Makes it easier to pack for shipment. Check out this thread.

Annual pumpkin boat race? Would that be the Pumpkin Regatta in Tualatin, Oregon? It sure is fun...but wet and smelly. They don't float all that well. I would love to grow my own someday, but how would I move a 1,000 lb pumpkin?

Re: square watermelon
My son wanted to grow them too and we did just one plant per 2 squares and water them like every day twice a day if it got really hot. We got 3 small watermelons and the we good. Hopes this helps.

Re: Square Watermelons?
I have this page bookmarked because it has the plans to make a box for the melon to grow inside:

I saw a youtube video where a guy was growing a bunch of melons in raised beds that were a good distance apart. The vines completely covered the area between the beds and he used a length of pvc pipe to find the melons.
