I've had very good luck with growing in my SFG gladioli, dahlia, elephant ear, hibiscus, ornamental sweet potato, Asiatic lily, mexican shell flower and caladium.

You should try planting coleus as an annual. I know they are usually house plants, being tropical, but in the summer they should be ok. You might want to plant a plant rather than seed, but that I don't know. I planted one a few years ago and it got HUGE and was gorgeous. It dies imediately at the first hint of frost - great and beautiful summer annual, tho.

I actually do have coleus Wink It was one of the only non veggie plants that werent in the fire. They are VERY pretty. The are reddish. I also got some pink ones for the diva daughter.

My coleus from indoor seeding is doing great! As to iris, have you ever dug and divided them before? Follow a guide on where to cut the rhizome, plant in a shallow trench with a short mound in the middle. The rhizomes have roots that come out either side, be sure to spread these out to either side of the mound. Here is good tutorial on dividing iris rhizomes.Iris for Northern Gardens
