PNW What is going on in December
Just wanted to drop into the PNW Region's forum and let you know that Furbalsmom is finally back and able to participate a bit more frequently. Unfortunately, I was unavailable to participate much for the last several months due to health issues, but am now rarin' to go - just in time for the slow season
Like many of you, I will be away from home for several days during the week of Christmas.
I am in need of hugs from my youngest grandson who, at least, is in our region, though not close by, distance wise.
Others in our group are expecting visits from family and friends.
Here is hoping that everyone enjoys their Holiday.
Upon my return from getting my grand baby fix, and celebrating the season, it will be time to finish the indoor seed starting calendar. I will admit that I have put it off and need to get geared up, because some of those cooler season plants need to be started before too long.

Glad to hear that you're feeling better. Back pain is terribly exhausting. Enjoy your grand baby fix. I, for one, look forward to your seed planting calendar.

That's what it's all about! These kids grow up so fast you have to enjoy every moment you can.
Thanks for the update! Glad you are feeling better and back with us

Hand squeeze FBmom! (I remember how much hugs hurt my back after a car accident)
Here at the toy box I am counting the days until winter sowing season starts (December 22). Have you ever done winter sowing? I like it for slow to start things like parsley and other herbs. I am always amazed to see little green shoots after a long cold winter.
So nice to hear from you dear lady
Debs....just debs

Re: PNW What is going on in December
Is this anything like plants self sowing in the fall and their seeds sprout up all over in the spring? If so, I guess I've been doing it for a long time. I always put dill, basil, petunia and portulaca seeds back down into their pots as I pull up the old plants. Next spring I sometimes get new plants. Got some pansys that have reseeded themselves coming up in a pot right now.

I looked at http://www.wintersown.org/
With respect to vegetables, I don't understand the advantages of winter sowing in containers over direct sowing in a SFG box and covering with clear plastic. Ideas?
