Mel recommends 4 plants per square foot.  Is that working for most gardeners.  I have also been told 1 per square has been recommended.  Would love to hear what your experiences have been.  Will be planting hopefully this evening.  Thanks for any information you can give me. Smile

If you are planting a strawberry variety that produces a lot of runners, it is best to plant one per square. The plant will quickly fill that square, in addition to sending runners into adjoining squares.

I plant 3-4 per square, but it means I have to stay on top of the runners.  Even with 1/sq ft, runners have to be managed or you can end up with a whole crop of new plants that can fill up the bed.  Photo of runners cascading down 2' and onto the ground.  Life got in the way of caring for the bed.
