Bush tomato spacing?

Bush tomato spacing?
In the original book Mel stated to space bush (determinate) tomatoes 4 to a 4x4' bed (2x2' spacing each). In the new book he recommends 3'x3' spacing. I wonder if the larger spacing is due to the fact the plants might grow bigger in the improved soil? What do you guys use? I knew 84 squares would not be enough!

I've used both spacings. With the smaller spacing, I had to cage the tomatoes to keep them from spreading into other squares.

Thanks. I guess I should have mentioned that I always cage the determinants -- otherwise they will flop over or break some of their stems. I think I'll go with the 2x2 spacing since that is what I've used with the "old" SFG method, and that is what my current plan calls for. Was just curious about the change.

Re: Bush tomato spacing?
good to know! my seed packet (for large red cherry tomato ) says 3 feet spacing.
i was just entering the info into my 'seed list' in my garden excel spreadsheet 'cause i'm a nerd and was wondering what i should put for my sfg spacing. i like the idea of 2x2 per plant.
gives me more squares.
i've got my seedlings outside for the first time overnight. i told them it was going to be warm enough for them and to buck up. *grin* here's hoping the tomatoes make it. . . i have lettuce and all other stuff, too in seed trays.
