Reintroducing myself.
So, I was foolish enough to embed my place of living in my nickname, but guess what, I am not in Atlanta anymore!
I have moved into Zone 8, baby! Hot! Literally! It was in the 90s yesterday, and though it's been cooling down somewhat, it's still considered summer in some other zones .
So, we survived the move, and as my first act of "normal" life, I am putting together my new SFG boxes already. I know it's late to plant, but I want to be prepared, so that I don't have to put them together in February.
I am going with two 4 x 8 this time, and they are going to be deeper, too! That means twice as much of Mel's mix, but who's counting when it comes to momma's hobby.
I also ordered two green-house-like row covers that fit just right over 4 x 8 boxes, and will serve as cold-frame/seed starter/row cover. They have zipped windows, and if I get sick of them, they fold like kids' tunnel into a small flat box. Woo hoo!
So, fellow Alabamians, where does a nice honest organic gardener get free compost these days?
Any advice on Alabama-specific menaces? Also, who carries Vermiculite in Montgomery area?

Welcome back! It'll be interesting to watch you adjust your calendar and become a "winter gardener."
