I found these raised bed stakes online:

http://www.leevalley.com/US/garden/page.aspx?p=44674&cat=2

The description reads: Just
mark out the area, drive the 11" long stake corners in where needed,
and drop 2 x 6 lumber (not included) into the brackets on the stake.

I see there are holes on the sides of the brackets, presumably to drill in a deck screw to secure the boards. Looking for feedback about whether those screws would be necessary to hold the boards in place, or if is it enough to just "drop 2 x 6 lumber (not included) into the brackets on the stake" as it says above?

Thanks in advance for your opinions. I am not handy with a drill! I got a friend's teenage son to put together the boards for my one bed this year, but am thinking about expanding and if I could really just slide the boards into the brackets and have them stay in place, I'd spend the extra money. :-)

Kristina (who is dreaming that her local community garden will let her have a little plot next year, and allow her to put in raised beds . . .)

It appears that you wouldn't necessarily need the screws, but I'm sure it would be more secure with them. I actually looked at those before building my beds this year, but my DH is very handy with tools, so we just used some corner brackets we found at HD on the top and bottom of each corner. I was too anxious to get started, and didn't want to wait for them to arrive. Laughing If you decide to use them, please let us know how they work out for you.

Unless your ground is perfectly flat, you will have one stake that won't be completely in the ground, and it will wiggle every time you bump the box. I would put screws in; second choice: nails.

But that much money would buy you another box. Go to the building department of your favorite big box store and ask for the 'Simpson StrongTies' section. You'll find a number of corner bracket options. Ask for the appropriate nails; they will only be 1½ inches long, which makes them pretty easy to nail in.

Here are just a few

They're a whole lot cheaper.

My local big orange store has those maybe they will let you open them to look I was also thinking of these. I was thinking that if I could put a 12" board in to make it deeper with out stacking them. I to am not totally handy in the lumber dept and also a bit lazy or impatient I haven't decided which lol. And my poor bf has a honey do as long as my arm.
