I also am seeing more bees this year. My common milkweed is blooming and it is attracting everyone! Last night I had 5-6 honeybees, a monarch, and maybe a dozen bumble bees. They were all so busy! I got a big kick out of watching the honeys pick up the pollen and put it on their legs. Very amazing! I can't remember the last time I saw more than one honey at a time. Yea!!

Family Gardening, you were much closer to the bee, obviously, so I might be wrong, but the orange guy looks like a honey bee to me.

I have posted in the past about these types of insecticides made by Bayer. The EPA has given them a free ride too long. You can find places to sign letters and other ways to help ban these in the US on the net.

I have only seen a hand full of honey bees this year. I guess no one is keeping any near me. The drought (we are getting rain now) has brought the bumble and carpender bee pop. down but the sweat bees are doing realy well. After researching I have decided to do little if any mulching between my T.T.'s so they can continue to nest in the moist ground around my garden. Thank goodness there is no big ag. near me. We must do what we can to stop this pesticide and others like it. Please take what action you can.Are you seeing bees? - Page 6 109486

Have to remark that I think every bee in the state is visiting my plot today.

We have several areas where wildflowers/weeds have been blooming, and the areas are just humming with bees. They're a white, small flower and have taken over everywhere we haven't mowed, which is a lot of areas - ha. When I looked closer this morning, they were swarming with mostly honeybees, plus bumblebees and some wasps. (I hate wasps.)

I don't where the hives are, but someone's bees are going to be making a lot of honey.

Funny how the different types of bee make different levels of buzzing sounds. It's a concert out there.

Got a bunch of flowers planted in pots to attract bees...

Was reading the lizard talk and I've seen tons on the walls next to my garden... also seen a couple hiding in the blocks that line my garden (they have a little lip on them as they stack allowing critters to hide. Then I realized I often sit on the blocks and hopefully I'm not crushing any.

Also trying to keep Patches (our dog) from hopping into the watermelon patch along the wall as lizards are apparently the only thing more fun than cats to chase....

Yup, they are making the last nectar and pollen push to build up the stores. Who is sponsoring the bee class you are going to be taking?

The Seacoast Beekeepers Assn. 6 weeks, one night a week for 2 hrs.

I guess they assign you a Bee Buddy. Smile

I think the reason we have so many bees right now is because around here most places are either treed or mowed. Right now our areas that aren't treed aren't mowed, so they're loving that. I'm glad to help the little guys along, they seem so happy. If I get a queen, maybe I can steal the hive. Haha.

I was amazed this morning as I left for work. We have some kind of weed in our yard that looks a lot like a little tiny wild moss rose, and there were honeybees everywhere !! I've not noticed many at all this year but they were sure out in force this morning...Smile

My Bee Buddy came by yesterday afternoon and we did a hive inspection. He declared my colony healthy and looking strong as we prepare for winter. The honey flow is still on, maybe for a few more weeks, but it really depends upon the weather, so the girls are keeping busy storing nectar and pollen and they continue to draw out comb on the foundationless frames. Good girls! Fingers crossed that they make it well through winter.
