Who Has Bees?
We have a chance to buy the parcel across the street (5 acres). We need to make it pay somehow. Anybody keep bees for profit? Any advice? Any other ideas?
Re: Who Has Bees?
There are quite a number of people here at one time who raise bees.
They have been very quiet for a year now. I hope all is well. I like reading about other people raising bees, and I love honey!

Another 5 acres? Would you take a bee keeping class? It seems it is harder to raise healthy bees than advertisements make it out to be.
What about part of it an orchard using BTE method. Tons of cow and horse manure covered with wood chips?

Re: Who Has Bees?
I belong to some bee groups. And I have to agree that it seems harder than appears. So I'd start with a class.
What about a herd of goats to rent out for brush removal? You could do that AND the orchard Sanderson recommends...

The opportunities are dizzying! Eventually, our granddaughter and hubby want to build their dream house on it, but that's probably 3-5 years away. In the meantime, we'd like to have it be productive. It is loaded with Manzanita, which may be saleable for parrot perches and toys. I'll post the "before" pic in Butterfly Junction.

It does look like more work no matter what you do. Pick your "own" venture sounds the easiest. Fruit trees, pumpkins. Goats for rent. Watering for productivity will be the key. https://thefreerangelife.com/32-ways-earn-money-homestead/
Maybe they could start with a mobile home?

Good ideas! I think this could be fun. I also found out that nonprofits only pay $5 and 4% every week. Katie was already talking about doing more events to rais money for the sanctuary. This could be the most productive and enjoyable use of her time.sanderson wrote:It does look like more work no matter what you do. Pick your "own" venture sounds the easiest. Fruit trees, pumpkins. DUH! I left out the part about the farmers' market. We could sell all of these ideas and we don't have to make a committment, so if it doesn't work out, we can quit any time. They're very picky about homemade, home grown, organic, and only $5 a week for nonprofits. It goes all the way till October, so we have plenty of time to experiment.sanderson wrote:countrynaturals wrote:sanderson wrote:It does look like more work no matter what you do.
