Boxes set at an angle Empty Boxes set at an angle

Due to the way the fence sits, I put my boxes at an angle so that I could use the fence for support (well I had planned to but then I measured wrong and I didn't end up doing that anyway Rolling Eyes ) Anyway... so then I realized when I went to plant that there wasn't a true north side to my boxes and I wasn't about to move six filled 4x4 boxes. So now my boxes are sitting with a corner pointing north and not a side. One side faces northeast and one side northwest and I'm not sure which side the tall things should go on. I've already planted quite a few things but I'm wondering if I should move them around. I put most of the taller vining things on the northwest side. I've got 3 boxes left to plant so before I continue to mess things up I thought I'd ask if I should be planting on the northeast side or northwest side.

Sewing Mom,

I too have North on a corner in my community garden bed and I trellised on the North West side. If you have hot weather, I think it is better if it is the hotter afternoon sun that is partially blocked.

In my case, it gave me a longer trellised area, because my bed is 4 X 12.

My corners point north too and I did Northeast and Southwest because of the way the boxes sit. May have to redo some boxes next year.

I have a North corner on my boxes too. Is there some conspiracy amongst the housing planners to try and keep SFGers down?? Laughing I planted my taller/vining plants on the Southwest side to shade some of the less heat-resistant crops...or so my thought process went. I'm a first-time gardener and SFG, but it seemed a good plan according to my research. Guess we'll see how it goes. =)
