Howdy Folks:

In the cool of the evening I went out and counted our squares while the soaker hose was doing its duty. We have 364 squares! Now before you say OH WOW that's a lot - remember that at least 200 of our squares are strawberries of 5 different types. At least 1/4 of the squares have not been planted. Our two days off last week were to be the big planting days, but, tornado cleanup took presidents over planting and today we planted a few lettuce and did other chores. Tomorrow we teach a SFG class in Richmond, VA so no planting is scheduled. Maybe before work in the next few days we may get most of the summer seeds planted. Time will tell.

For those who keep track of the odd things that happen in tornado events this one may be of interest. Operation Blessings coordinated clean up in Deltaville, VA and we worked one Pastors back yard where the tornado had thrown various large pine trees onto his now crushed chicken coop. Using chain saws and volunteers the back yard and chicken coop was cleared of trees and debris and under it all was an untouched clutch of 8 freshly laid eggs. At least the Pastor had a nice breakfast. Of his 15 chickens, 13 survived without a scratch. The Pastors home is one of 28 declared a total loss. On the bright side his chickens are still laying eggs and he and his wife were not injured.

How is your garden growing?

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

You go, Ward! I haven't even started thinking about planting warm crops.

As for the pastor...good health, eggs for breakfast, firewood to keep warm, and a community full of showers to keep clean. Coulda been worse! Wink

I wonder how many of us teachers neglect our own planting?

It was understandable when I didn't have a garden last year - we had just returned from 3 years in Germany and the renovations on the house meant we had to tear down our existing beds (that's OK because they were from the "old" book).

Then I had excruciating pain (fibromyalgia AND a severe vitamin D deficiency probably brought to a head from the stress of the move & renos).

This year I was working hard getting my SFG business up & running that I didn't have time for my own bed.

The ONLY reason I even got my bed in 3 weeks ago is that I was teaching a class at my house. : ) I thought it wouldn't do to teach a class if I couldn't show them one. LOL then it rained SO HARD that we couldn't even go out to see it so they had to see it from my office window. BUT IT'S DONE!
Laughing

Hope you have a wonderful class tomorrow!

Kim
