Opening Day!!
For those of you that don't care, it's baseball I'm speaking of. Summer's pasttime is here!!
And, I'm a STL Cardinal, so it's like a religious experience locally. Now, let us just get #5 signed. And, y'all go root, root, root for your home team.
Happy Opening Day!!

You need to get on Facebook. Become "friends" with a little group we call Cub's Hat. Awhile back, a group of us men from the church took a friend's Cubs hat. He gets a little loose with the hat, and mouth, when he drinks. So, we have been traveling the country....with his hat.
It's been on cacti in the AZ desert, to the top of the Arch, on my nephew's head while he smashed his 1st birthday cake, Gatlinburg, TN, etc.....even Dallas. It's so funny to see where the hat will turn up next.
But, if you're a real Cubby......BOOOOOOOOOO! lol. It's such a friendly rivalry with me. I would love to talk smack with someone this year....especially now that we are pretty evenly matched.

Typical Cubs fan.......citing Da Bears. The only success, besides the Bulls, you have to brag about......lol.
(Remember, no matter how I sound, it's only trash talk......and, for the record, I was a huge Sweetness fan.)

Re: Opening Day!!
I can take smack talk, I promise.
How can you not be a fan of the man behind #34, I mean the most prestigous award in the NFL is named after him, the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. It goes to a player for his efforts on and off the field, oh and a Bear was up for that award this year.
At least WE HAVE the same footbal team we've always had, not one borrowed from CA, not to mention the winningest team in NFL history, oh I am full of stats.
I really do love a good baseball game, and would love to go see the TX Rangers (closest I can get to) one day, but football is my sport and I'm already having withdrawls from no Terry Bradshaw on Sunday. My Great-Grandfather, one of my fanovite memories-the man himself, was a Cubs fan. He would sit on his sun room porch, listen to the old radio while the Cubs played and convince each one of us he could smoke a cigarette from his ear. When my grandfather died I got a poster of Wriggly Field WITHOUT the lights, someone stole it-upset me royally. I've got a dream, to one day steal some ivy from Wriggly Field.

Re: Opening Day!!
You may have to run naked onto the field to get that ivy. I hear they leave naked people alone....lol.
How can the Bears be the winningest team with the Steelers winning all the Super Bowls? Have they been around longer? Kind of like Cy Young....winningest AND losingest pitcher ever.
Now, as far as Cincy goes.......hmmmmm, where to start. Actually, I just hope they don't repeat this year.

Re: Opening Day!!
MM you are too funny.
I'll keep it short. In 1920 a man named George "Pappa Bear" Halas formed the team (then the Decater Stanleys) and the orginization that became the NFL. By 1922 they were the Bears. The Chi-town Green Bay rivalery is 90 years old. And BYBG you may be interested to know that the Former ST Louis Cardinals were at one time the Chicago Cardinals and they are as old as the Bears. Thier home field was Wriggly Field, hence the Cubs/Bears names. Their current stadium is dedicated to all those who have served our coutries military-Soldier Stadium.
Okay, back to signs of Spring-one of which is "Take me out to the ball game", and the awesome sound of the crack of a wood bat, John Foggerty's "Centerfield".
I remeber streakers.......
A lesson we can take from baseball, Babe Ruth was the long time holder of the Home Run record. He struck out 1,330 times in regular season, and 30 in World Seires games. That record too has been shattered, Reggie Jackson now holds the record with 2,597, my beloved Sammy Sosa has 2,306. You can't get ahead with out at least a few misses. Stop focusing on the misses and focus on the hits, even if they don't make it out of the park.

"AND THIS ONE BELONGS TO THE REDS!!"
What an awesome opening day! Got to the party during the bottom of the 9th. Sat in my car & listened to Marty & Jeff call it. So exciting!! No one at the party believed me until others began showing up!
Then I filled my buckets with chicken & goat poop, had a beer, and went home. No baseball in the queen city today, but I am going to the game on Sunday. Woo Hoo!!

I'm jealous. I haven't been to a game in a couple of years. I would like to get out to see Albert one more time....just in case. This year, the wife and I plan on taking the kids. Hmmmm, now where's that piggy bank gone off to?
