50 cent tomato seedlings at Wal-Mart
Yesterday I saw 50 cent tomato seedlings at Wal-Mart. They were just labeled as "Tomato Special Buy" So, if you want a mystery tomato really cheap, check out WallyWorld. Honestly, I had to stop myself from picking up one (or a few ) even though I have more lovingly raised from seed, carefully chosen from catalogs tomatoes than I have room for already. It was like they were stray mutts just begging me to take them home FOR ONLY 50 CENTS!

I hear you with the contradiction on buying mystery plants at wal-mart. On the one hand, who knows where it came from and how modified it is.... but on the other, its still a little plant trying to survive. You probably did the right thing getting some, unless you are saving for seed and some Monsanto seeds end up on your property and in your collection.

I saw those, too!
I looked all over them for some sort of name or description. I grew a Creole tomato last year, and really didn't care for the flavor. As tempting as the price was, I'd rather know what I'm buying!
Still, the chances of finding another tomato I don't like are pretty slim.....
I'm not doing it, though.

I was in Home Depot today and they have 6 packs of 6 varieties of tomatoes for $2.49. From what I saw there were 2 choices Heirloom and Gardeners Classic, each labeled with 6 different varieties.
I already have what I want started from seed but it was tempting.

I close my eyes and dash past those displays
I'm sure I would pick one up, plant it & it would grow the greatest tomatoes I've ever had. Then Walmart would discontinue the next year & I would spend the rest of my life angry and disappointed, because I could never figure out what the heck the tomato variety that I planted.
Just how my life tends to work ...LOL
